Meet the Maker

Deepika, the maker behind Amateur Pen

Hi, I’m Deepika

If you’ve found your way to this page, I suppose you’re probably wondering who is actually behind Amateur Pen.

Well, hello. :)

I’m a doctor by profession, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve also been someone who likes making things. I’ve always loved drawing, playing around with paper, making little things for myself and, more recently, turning those ideas into things that other people can use and enjoy too.

Amateur Pen came from that part of me.

It wasn't something I sat down and planned to start. There was no big business idea or five-year plan behind it. It started rather casually — with me making things I liked, getting excited about an idea, and then thinking, maybe someone else would like this too.

And one thing slowly led to another.

A drawing became a print.

An idea became a notebook.

Something I made for myself became something I could actually put in the shop.

And somewhere along the way, Amateur Pen became a real little thing.

I think what I enjoy most is the process of making. Coming up with an idea, changing it ten times, wondering whether it's actually any good, making a prototype, deciding I hate it, starting again — and then finally getting to that point where I look at it and think, okay, I like this.

A lot of that happens around my desk, usually with far too many pieces of paper lying around and several unfinished ideas nearby.

Amateur Pen is still very much a work in progress. I'm figuring things out as I go — what I want to make, what people enjoy, what I enjoy making enough to keep doing. And I like that it hasn't become something completely predictable yet.

For now, it's a collection of stationery, artwork and little paper things that I genuinely enjoy making.

Some are practical. Some are just for fun. Some probably exist because I saw something and thought, I want one of those.

And honestly, that's the kind of thing I want Amateur Pen to be.

A place for things that make you want to write something down, put something on your desk, send something to someone, or simply make your everyday life feel a tiny bit nicer.

So that's the person behind the pen.

Thanks for stopping by. I'm really glad you're here.

BEHIND THE MAKING

Made slowly. Kept for longer.

A LITTLE GLIMPSE BEHIND THE SCENES.

From a blank sheet to something worth keeping.

Every piece begins with paper, patience and a little bit of love for the process.

We make things slowly — because the everyday things around us deserve to feel a little more special.
